Diabetes - An Economic Burden

New study provides revised complete estimates that propose that the U.S. nationwide economic burden of pre-diabetes and diabetes reach $218 billion in 2007. These estimates include $153 billion in advanced medical costs and $65 billion in decreased productivity. The normal annual cost per case is $2,864 for undiagnosed diabetes, $9,975 for diagnosed diabetes ($9,677 for type 2 and $14,856 for type 1), and $443 for pre-diabetes (these are medical costs only). For each American, in spite of diabetes status, this trouble represents a cost of just about $700 per annum. These consequences underscore the urgency of improved appreciative how avoidance and treatment strategy may or may not help decrease costs.
